Short on Time (Aila vs Ren)

The roar of the crowd could even be heard in the waiting area. It set a certain young mages heart racing to think about all the people that would soon be watching her every move. She bounced on her toes a few times and performed some basic stretches and warm ups. The last thing she needed was to lock up or pull something in her first fight. As the gates opened Aila shielded her eyes from the harsh rays of the sun, and immediately she realized just how many people had come to see the tournament. The audience looked like something out of a tv show with people as far as the eye could see, and all of them were screaming for the start of the battle. What appeared to be cameras were drifting around on crystal stands and one began to circle the girl.

"Here comes our first combatant~ The young requip mage from Hargeon; second in line for the Mizushima blacksmith. Mizushima Aila!"

The roar from the stands got louder and caused a sort of excitement to pool in the young girl's stomach. So this is what a professional fight was like? She was only used to witnessing one sided brawls. Aila decided to give a little show. “Requip!” She held her hand above her head as her entire body let out a bright glow. She twirled her hand around idly and soon the weapon appeared; a bright red scythe and the end of a chain. As the weapon spun it left a bright red trail in its wake. The crowd ate this up. It was truly an intoxicating feeling to have someone cheer for you.

She performed one last stretch and awaited the arrival of her opponent.

The crowd was wild before her opponent entered the arena, and they went even wilder when she entered the arena. Ren heard that her opponent was announced, her clue to get starting to walk to the arena. 'right, this is it' Ren said to herself. This really was it, whether she would win or lose, it would be a great fight. She hoped that at least, because she was not that very confident of herself yet. She might make a chance, but it would all depend on the opponent she would face. Ren entered the arena and the crowd went just as wild as when her opponent entered. The sun was shining bright, and there where cameras all around the arena. they where first aimed at her opponent but then when she was clearly in the arena they went to Ren. She got this unpleasant feeling that one of the cameras would beam her to dead in a second but she got over that feeling very quick.

'And Aila's opponent would be the mysterious Fairy Tail mage, Shimizu Ren .'

Mysterious was right. Most members of Fairy Tail did not even knew her magic. They never asked and she did not had a lot of opportunity to really show them. The only people that really knew where actually Tartaros. She did not knew the girl in front of her but she did not hope she was. Ren could not spot a real guild tattoo and did not remember the announcer saying she actually was in a guild. Still it was best to be cautious. Ren did notice a tattoo under her left eye but that was not of a guild she knew of, if of a guild at all. She was wielding a Scythe with a chain Ren also noticed a small dagger on the end of the chain. From this Ren guessed she was facing a Re-equip mage. At first she looked quite scary, but her young age did not really add to the effect. It actually made her look kind of cute, even in those clothes. Still, Aila was her enemy in this fight and it was wrong to underestimate her because of age. Ren estimated the distance from the place the two mages where standing. There was plenty of place and from here the scythe won't reach her by normal means. But mages possessed non-normal means so she had to be careful. Ren summoned her orb of time and whispered so softly that nobody heard while moving her right hand up to beside her head. 'Orb of Time' and the orb appeared in the hand she held beside her head. This made the crowd rather still and curious what Ren would do with that orb. For now Ren waited for the other mage to act.

The girl had appeared! Her very first real opponent! Aila slowed the spinning of her weapon and moved her hand up the chain. Soon it was making small circles in her left hand. The girl said something in a rather quiet voice, and some sort of magic orb had appeared. Aila smiled at her opponent. It was another girl, apparently from Fairy Tail. She was pretty cute too, it was a shame their first meeting was on a battlefield.

"Let's make this a good one!" she exclaimed as her clothes let out a bright glow "Requip!"as she said this it changed to a white outfit with a wing-like cape.

She felt a lightness come over her body, and rocked slightly to get used to the feeling. With a small kick off of the ground she leaped into range and let go of the chain. It extended towards her opponent in a wide arc. The blunt side facing the opponent, Aila didn’t want to inflict anything too serious on the girl. As it traveled it released its bright red glow. The enchantment increased its temperature rapidly. At the other end Aila held the dagger in her palm, ready to defend herself in case of a counter attack.

The audience appeared to be surprised by her move as it took them a moment to shout in awe.

Ren saw her opponent spinning the her weapon. She just summoned her orb by whisper not to show her magic from the start. From early experience she knew humankind was much more afraid of the unknown. Then again she wished to fight her opponent at her best. She heard her calling to her to make it a good one. Ren smiled and reacted: 'Couldn't have said it better.' Aila than confirmed Ren's suspicion by re-quiping. Ren fully concentrated on her opponent. She would not hold back on her, then again she did not wanted to kill her.

Aila seemed to leap closer. Ren also went closer. Seeing the scythe blunt side coming at her she ducked beneath it. She could feel the heat of the weapon on her lowered head. She threw her orb of time with all her might while getting back up, and actually aimed bad on purpose. She also shouted 'Flashsteps' when she threw it. The orb would go past Aila from her right then make a turn and strike her head from behind.

With a simple duck the girl had dodged her attack and even launched a counter attack. Too cool! Her free hand reached out and gripped the chain pulling it closer. She the continued her spin and struck the orb directly with the weapon. It shattered into pieces almost instantly.

Aila stopped abruptly and caught the scythe while releasing the chain, which fell limp behind her legs. A slight heat was emanating from its blade. The chain casually drifted over her head as she hopped in a jump rope like motion, the chain going over her head and under her feet. Gradually, her speed increased as she thought about her next move. Suddenly, using her built up momentum, she slammed the blade of the scythe into the ground behind Ren. The chain was on the girl's right side. In the same motion she gave it a tug, while kicking off of the ground. This caused her to fly towards Ren. With the dagger in hand.

She swung the dagger handle horizontally towards the girl's temple. The girl appeared to be a ranged fighter, perhaps moving in close would tip the odds in her favor.

Ren's orb was easily shattered. She thought Aila would dodge it, but she did not. Oh well. She saw her scythe hitting the ground on her right. It hit the ground just behind her. She tried to come close. For a normal mage vs a re-quip mage this might have been a problem. But Ren actually tried to get Aila close to her all along. She had to do something against that annoying scythe, but that would be impossible at long range and at mid range Ren could not hit her, but she could hit Ren. Ren also saw Aila coming at her, with her blade aimed at her. Ren waited till she was extremely close and while holding out her hand at the closing dagger. Then she shouted 'Future Impact!' She aimed at the dagger that was closing, but it would crumble to dust before it would actually hit her. That was the path she chose for the weapon, for the dagger and any other part of the weapon in 1m radius.

An alarmed look spread across the girl's face as the dagger in her hand crumbled away. What kind of magic could do this? Before the spell could spread much further she sent the scythe back into her pocket dimension. She attempted to avoid the attack afterwards but found that it did nothing to her hand which had been in range. With a hard kick off of the ground she did a back flip and landed at a safe distance.

She did a quick check of her body and found that parts of her cloak had decayed as well. So it only effected objects then? Ahhhhh, but being left naked in the center of a stadium packed full of people probably wouldn't be fun. She was a requip mage though... Getting dressed again would be a snap... She swallowed hard and steeled her resolve. Losing all of her weapons was a no-go... But how else could she fight?

"Requip: Cerberus" The remains of her chain scythe appeared in her hand. She had lost the dagger and a couple feet off of the chain. But the scythe had luckily been spared. She twirled it around in her hand for a moment and sure enough it's enchant lit like normal. So she followed it up by flinging the weapon at the girl, aiming for her head.

As it fell she focused the magic at her feet and kicked off of the ground. In an instant she was behind the girl and struck at her back with her fist.

Great, without the extremely long chain their ranges where about even. Just when Ren thought to have somewhat of an upper hand, Aila took her scythe back and threw it at her. Ren was ready to dodge it, but Aila glided behind her so fast that it looked like teleporting. Surprised Ren knew she had a second to react. To late to block the fist. It hit her. But she used to power of that blow to fall faster so the scythe would fly over her. Quickly she rolled over while shouting "flashback" to let her orb reappear in her hand. After the roll she stood up fast and threw her orb, while shouting "Time Beam" It went with the double speed then normal.

Her fist had connected perfectly, and as planned she had dodged the scythe allowing it to fall safely back into her hands. However the girl had taken the opportunity and resummoned her orb thingy. Aila wasn’t too worried, she had made quick work of it before; what could be different this time? However she did gain an interesting tidbit of information when the girl launched her next attack. It appeared she was using some form of time magic. That would explain the rapid decay of her weapon and armor, as well as the ability to piece together that orb from a flashback. It was truly amazing how many different magic types there were, she had never heard of time magic existing.

The beam-like magic was coming at her quick. She snatched up the chain of her scythe and sidestepped slightly. The beam hit her in the side causing her to spin. As she did she released some of the chain causing it to lengthen and travel towards her opponent. She knew she couldn't continue to pull her punches so she allowed the blade to swing freely at the girl. She attacked horizontally twice before catching the blade and lunging forward for a vertical attack.

(Alright it's been 4 days so I guess that's a win by default)

The attacks were light, barely leaving scratches on the enemy mages skin. The irritation of the small burns would be far worse than the pain of the actual scratch. Aila bit her lip and continued her assault. A low kick to the leg followed by a hit with the blunt end of her scythe, and the girl was down for the count. All around the crowd roared with glee. Despite her less flashy style Aila had come out ahead and managed to win. Could this be what it's like being an underdog?

Well, nobody seemed to have known too much about the other girl either... So I guess both were underdogs in their own right. 'still being able to decay my weapons like that' Aila glanced down at her damaged weapon solemnly. It was brand new, had only been used to kill a couplre giant spiders, and now it was in this tattered state. With a quick sigh, she turned to face the crowd and held the weapon high. It released it's usual red glow, as bright as ever. The crowd ate this up and cheered even louder. This could get addictive.

As she walked out of the stadium she couldn't help but worry about her next match. With her more powerful weapon in this state how could she beat someone that had cleared round 1? Her hand idly traveled along her tattered cloak, at a whim she forced a pulse of magic through it. It glowed like usual and seemed to be working fine, but she didn't feel quite as light as usual.

"Aila!" a familiar voice shouted and she felt herself being pulled into a hug by a couple little people. She looked down to see her twin brothers and spun to meet the gaze of her older brother. He smiled and revealed that he had brought his tools with him. Apparently, the tournament sponsors had offered rooms to the families of the participants. they went to a nearby workshop and he fixed up all of her gear.

"There ya go!" he shouted as he slammed his hammer down on the new chain. His hand wiped some sweat from his brow. "Now try not to be too reckless, but give em hell" He held the repaired chain scythe to his sister with a smirk. Aila smirked back at him.

The twins returned a moment later with her cloak, and she placed all of the repaired items safely in her pocket dimension.
