Byakuya was running through the station, trying to get to the train on time. He'd only recently gotten the mission, and he didn't want to miss it. After all, it payed good money and seemed like a job that would be just up his street. There always seemed to be something that he could do nowadays but he found that if he waited a few days, a mission that just screamed out for him tended to appear. However he'd found this one much too close to the deadline and he was struggling to even make it on time. He cursed his small legs for only being able to carry him so far, and knew that it was going to be awkward if he was just left panting on the side of the platform. He pushed through the doors into the station and started climbing up the steps two at a time. He wasn't going to miss this mission, not for all the money in the world.

He finally got to the platform and saw the train getting ready to leave. They were piling the last box of cargo onto the train and from the poster he knew that they'd leave the moment the train was ready, whether or not the wizard was on it. He needed to make this, not just to earn money but to protect Lamia Scale's reputation. After all, who respected a guild that just completely ignored a mission this important.
"Wait!! Hold the train!" he cried, as he got closer. The loader's raised their eyebrows at him and continued packing the cargo. With the train now fully loaded, it was ready to set off. The door was slammed behind him as he entered the cargo carriage. It was dark inside, only illuminated by a little window on a door that led to the back of the train. It made him wonder why this carriage had been chosen to hold the gold and the silver. After all, it was only going to make it harder to protect. If the bandits did attack, then they'd board the train. If they boarded the train, the most logical place to attack would be the back of the train, and thus this was kind of like piling all your positions behind your front door.

He sat on the top of one of the boxes, listening to the sound of the train moving along. The chugging noise set him at ease as he thought of the machinery that it took to control the train properly. Such a beautiful thought, the machinery all working in sync like that. In rhythm with the chug-chug-chug of the train was the pitter-pattering of rain. He looked out the window and saw that the sky above was grey and it was clearly raining heavily. He smiled gently, thinking about how much more interesting this would make the inevitable fight. After all, just being sunny would have been boring. All it needed now was some cool music, and this would have been a scene right out of a film.

It was around half an hour into the train journey that Byakuya first started to feel something was amiss. This was supposed to be a highly defensive mission so... where the hell was the enemy? They were supposed to be here by now. He was deep in thought wondering what was going on, when he heard the carriage's door opening, and he turned to look behind him. There, standing in the doorway, were two men. Both were dressed in what he could only assume was military uniform, but there were a few major differences. The weaker one seemed to be wearing a leather jerkin, probably because he wasn't strong enough to take enemies without at least some protection. The obviously stronger one had no such additional armor, but instead had two swords at his belt. He looked rather attractive actually, and was probably going to be one of those pretty boy types. He sighed, and leaped to his feet, walking over to them with his hands in his pockets
"Well lookie what we have here, it's the state's guard-dogs." He said, grinning wildly. He didn't care if they thought he was being disrespectful, they had no real authority over him.
"My main question for the day is, what the hell are you doing here? I thought I was supposed to be the one hired to protect this train." The sergeant stood to attention and snapped a salute at him
"Sergeant Bradley at your service, sir. We were ordered to accompany you to protect the train." Byakuya shrugged and offered his auto-mail hand to the man to shake
"Well, six hands are certainly better than two. Now, do we know anything about our enemies?"
"Not a thing sir, none of the guards who were accompanying the other trains managed to make it out. It appears they were over-run by a whole gang of them. Do you know anything about them?"
"Other than the fact that they should have attacked before now, no." it was at that moment that he heard the clopping of horse shoes outside of the train. He went to the window and looked out. There, in the distance, were 16 horses. Byakuya gulped. This was NOT going to be an easy fight.

As they got closer and closer, Byakuya started regretting that he had no really effective long range weaponry. All he could do was wait until they attacked.
"Alright, you two. Stay behind the doors. I will try to stop any that grab onto the back of the train, but I think after maybe the third or fourth one we'll be over-run. Once too many have boarded, I think we're going to have to fall back into this carriage, and try to stop them here. That means I need you two to keep the element of surprise. Make sure they don't see you until we're ready to spring the trap." The soldiers nodded and took their positions behind the door. He steadied himself and waited for the first boarding party.

As the first man jumped off his horse onto the train, Byakuya raised his leg and slammed the man in the stomach, sending him flying off the train and crashing onto the floor, getting tramped by his own horse. As the second one jumped, Byakuya raised his fist and slammed him in the face, stopping him from getting a footing and causing him to fall off and cut another one's leap short. The two fell together and was quickly lost in the distance. A fifth of the bandits were now dead, or at least neutralized. The next one mustn't have even been trying as Byakuya was able to catch him by the collar with his auto-mail arm and throw him at another two of his comrades, knocking off their horses and sending them barreling away.

Byakuya was starting to get cocky, and was enjoying this fight. The remaining ten attackers continued to race onwards, to which Byakuya merely waited patiently. What was the point in getting all pent up? Two attacked at once this time, swinging at him. He merely raised his arm and blocked, metal clinking against metal. The two men looked at each other panicked, as he threw his coat off and back into the train, revealing his automail arm.
"Like it?" He asked before punching one of them in the face. The man's nose broke, spilling blood down his face as he staggered backwards and fell off. the other man swung again, to which byakuya was unable to move in time. A slash along his normal arm caused him to moan in pain. He lashed out with his foot, pushing the man off. He backed back into the carriage, trying to find something to stop the bleeding. the second soldier ripped a piece off his shirt and tossed it to byakuya, obviously meant to dress the wound. He wrapped it around and stemmed the bleeding. It wasn't a good look for him, but it didn't matter how it looked. He seethed, ready to go out and attack, but deciding that now was the best time to spring the trap. Waiting inside the carriage, he allowed a group of four men come into the room. They charged towards him, before getting cut to pieces by the soldiers. Byakuya grinned and waited for the next group with eager anticipation
"I guess it's a bit late to bring this up now but..." He slammed his normal hand into his automail hand. A magic circle wrapped around it, before it stretched out and became a knife. He grinned as the two soldiers looked at him, and he brandished it, showing it off.
"Engarde!" he laughed, before standing next to both the soldiers.
"It looks like we're almost finished. Come on, we're on the last hurdle." He said, as the final few bandits attacked. He charged forwards and cut one across the throat, before spinning around and cutting through two other bandits. They fell to the floor, clutching at their guts. He finally grabbed the last one with his normal hand and threw him out the door, cascading over the rail and slamming into the floor. He thought he was done and sat down panting.

A shadow appeared in the door, and Byakuya thought that it was going to be a normal enemy so let the guards handle it. They ran forwards, and slashed, but the man somehow managed to dodge. He grabbed the wrist of the corporal and threw him out of the door and onto the tracks. Not even the leather would be able to protect against that. Byakuya looked back, almost getting a bit upset. The sergeant charged at him, but was stabbed in the gut by the man, and collapsed to his knees. Byakuya ran forwards and slammed his sword against the man's knife, knocking it out of his hand and flying out the door and onto the tracks. He tried to slash against the guy's neck, but the man managed to dodge
"You bastard!" he cried out, before getting punched in the face, he staggered backwards onto the platform involuntarily and felt the man move quickly, slamming into his gut five times in a row. Byakuya was winded and had to grab the edge to make sure that he wasn't knocked over the edge. He backed away, but his balls was kneed, knocking him to his knees in pain. He was pushed over by the man's foot and would have been knocked off in a moment. The man grinned, but clearly didn't see the sergeant running up behind him, barreling into him and sending both of them off the train. Byakuya turned and looked, watching the pair race off into the distance in a scuffle. He grabbed the rail and got to his feet. No amount of money was worth this.

A few hours later, the train finally arrived in Oak Town and he dismounted, moving up to the train carriage with the head of the operation in it
"Money.. please."
"Where are the guards we sent you?"
"In whatever heaven they believe in."
