| Persona Name: Vanitas Blackedge Alias: Shadowblade Gender: Male Age: 17 Birthday: Oct. 15 Sexuality: Heterosexual Special Characteristics: His unnaturally golden yellow eyes. Personality:IntelligentVan is not someone any would consider a fool. He expresses his intelligence most notably in the fact that he likes to use his words only when he feels they are needed. He doesn't like to talk himself up or engage in what he views as pointless conversation. With that it is not to say that he can't find talking for developing relationships is unimportant. More that he would view the need to develop something he would have to see a reason as to why this person would be considered important enough or worth a conversation. He works very well with others that are on his level physically or mentally in combat. His tactical skills allow him to be able to use his own skills or manipulate a comrade's skills to utmost proficiency and accomplish what is needed. BluntVanitas wastes little time in beating around the bush. He does not prefer to hear or say sugar-coated or fabricated versions of the truth. His opinions about a person or a situation are no secret either, if he meets someone that he feels is weak, strong, annoying or even interesting he will say it right to the person’s face. He has a weaker filter than most for what others may consider rude or inappropriate, most of the time it even has little to do with what he thinks of the person as a whole. It’s more along the lines that he chooses not to spare people’s feelings than that he doesn’t understand why it may be offensive; the fact that it can be considered offensive can sometimes even be the reason he behaves so bluntly, as a form of messing around with people. DefenderHe may be of a mercenary nature but in most cases he greatly prefers to be helping someone more because of their need than just what is in their pockets. Yes Vanitas does need to make a living but he does not wish to see innocent people to get hurt. There may even be potential situations where he puts a job on the back seat for the sake of protecting a person who is incapable of their own self-defense. This would have to be an extreme case where their life is in mortal danger or their purposes in life were in jeopardy. Of course he would only know if someone’s life was in true danger if he was notified beforehand or it was blatantly obvious. A situation that is that dire doesn't usually pop up but Van will not ignore that type of circumstance if he sees it. CompetitiveBeing the youngest of his brothers it is natural that Vanitas would feel as if he would have the most to prove. This doesn't mean that he is thought less of but it's something internal within him that he has to earn his stripes to a greater extent than the others. He likes to compare his abilities to each of them and has a complex about the chances of surpassing them. He figured that he must have acquired his will to be the best from either his father or even possibly the whole Blackedge clan. It was more likely a father-given trait though since he was such a powerful warrior. In that light Vanitas compares a lot of his instinctual battle prowess to his oldest brother Maverick who is most like their father, no questions asked. On the skilled and integral end he likes to compare to Connor his other brother, who more takes after their mother on the personality and intellectual end. No matter what he will always have a part of him that will enjoy fighting and comparing among-st the best, it is engraved into his being Loving (To important people)Vanitas has very few people that are close enough to him where he can display his loving and soft side. Even a lot of people he believes are good enough to be his friend don't see this part of him and even the people that do only see this side on rare occasion. He is almost gracious in tender moments where he cares for a person. He considers the moments with them to be precious, creating a perfect oasis or sanctuary in that time. After all is said and done with his fighting days, when everything wrong as been avenged and fixed he will spend his time enjoying these moments with his family mostly, potentially a girl one day but that is not likely for at least five or ten years to come. Under everything this is what he hungers to do, everything he would be forced to do beforehand is just the sacrifice of his own body for the pay-off. He wants to be able to die with a smile on his face immersed in his 'sanctuary'. Likes:LivingThe only point of life is to live it to its fullest purpose. At the moment that purpose is directed towards the vengeance of his father and unleashing his wrath on his mother's captors but he is doing his best to accomplish that. Living his life the way he chooses is something he is very grateful for, the fact that he isn't bound to live by someone else's rules makes living worthwhile. He lives for the sake of being alive and accomplishing all that he can. Even if he can ever avenge his father, find his mother and restore his clan he will live to the fullest on the next chapter of his life. A lot of what helps Van live to his best is his companionship with his older brothers, having family that relate to him in such a similar way about their current life issues bring out his passions about it. FriendsThe truth is Vanitas does enjoy being around people he considers a friend, they would be reliable people that he could take up arms with or even against in the sense of a spar. Someone that Van could consider as a friend is someone that he would want to protect, not in a babying sort like he would for defenseless people but in a respect that he cares about their well-being. He may be harsh or blunt with his friends but their is no doubt that there is some sort of bond or Vanitas would have no reason to even remember their name. He has few friends, but those few are true friends, ones he can actually relate with and trust. Dislikes:Senseless CrueltySomeone who is mean or horrid to someone without just cause is true evil in Vanitas' mind. It reminds him of how his clan was decimated without provocation and makes him sick to his stomach. His anger will jump leaps and bounds within a second's at witnessing a situation that involved unjust cruelty. There is no need on this earth for someone who intentionally lives to torment others. FoolsSomeone that is blatantly ignorant of what goes on around them completely annoys Van. He can't stand acts of stupidity when they are not needed and could have been easily avoided. His blunt way of looking at things really makes him incapable of being around people who demonstrate blatant stupidity for long periods of time without bursting out in his frustration. This is not to be confused with people who stand up against people that are much stronger than them. Those people actually earn Vanitas' admiration more than anything. But someone who seems to lack common sense, he would sooner beat up than be his/her friend. Motivations:- To dominate and destroy the lives that caused so much pain and to make their deaths as tormenting as possibly, draining them of everything they love and hold dear - Van wants to find the unrevealed third party and drown that man in his own blood - To find his mother - Rebuild the respect that was once given to the name of Blackedge - Honor his father's memory - Be as strong as his brothers in this journey and to do whatever it takes to repay everything tenfold on their targets Fears:- To lose a chance at striking back at the ones who ruined his home and family - That the challenges that he and his brothers face could cost one or both of them their lives - That they may not find their mother in time or soon enough to save her - The men responsible may have die before they confront them - Someone else gets a chance to get revenge before him and his brothers do Appearance Height: 5’8 Weight: 150 lbs Hair: Jet black, spiky Eyes: Golden yellow Others: General Appearance:Vanitas had black spiky hair that he never puts much effort in maintaining, keeps a darker look about him. His face has a clear complexion, among most he would be considered a hansom young man and whenever he doesn't look straight-faced in expression he usually wears a small smug grin, almost looking arrogant. His skin tone his relatively pale but with a slight olive-tan tint to it. His peculiar golden eyes really pop with the dark contrast of his hair and they inspire a sinister feel even though their general shape and placement would normally suggest kindness. Van's body build is athletic and defined. Of his general family line he is in fact thinner than most, his muscle being a lot more lean than bulky. For clothing Van switches around a lot when in a battle due to the nature of being a requip user. Besides that he most often wears his dark brown hooded sweater zipped all the way up and the hood partially over his head. Under the sweater is a simple black undershirt. To go with that he wears a pair of gloves sporting the same colour as the sweater but they have black symbols on the backs of them, not seeming to mean anything significant. He wears black pants that are breathable and slightly baggy for stretch room and back lean boots, that go just above the ankle. His attire and lack of expression give him a lazier general look along with the fierceness of his eyes he comes off as one not to cross but not overly hostile either. Guild Guild: Guildless Guild Tattoo: Crimson, on the inside of his left bicep Rank: D Magic Primary Magic: Requip - Blackedge Secondary Magic: N/A Caster or Holder: Holder Description: Requip – Blackedge belongs to the Requip magic family, allowing its user to instantly change and adapt to battles through the use of various equipment and spells to enhance their combat capabilities no matter what item is currently equipped. The magic itself can be taxing on the user in prolonged battles due to the magical cost of changing equipment and the various enhancements that might be used on said equipment without being able to land the attacks. The Blackedge requip specializes in extreme war weapons and oriented around supreme fighting ability, it is the ideal method of any offensive-oriented soldier. Strengths:Like all requip magic, Blackedge is a very versatile magic due to the sheer amount of possible combinations of equipment available to it, in addition to the enhancements that it could infuse with them. One could say this magic holds boundless potential for one who knows how to use it. Weaknesses:Jewels are the strongest and the weakest point of any requip magic. If you have the money for it, it is extremely powerful, however it is an expensive magic to maintain and upgrade. Another problem is it is a limited fighting magic for someone who lacks the appropriate imagination and experience to use it. Extras History: - Spoiler:
Vanitas was born into the Blackedge clan the son of one of the most elite fighters in the clan history, the youngest of his three sons. Blackedges were a clan of Requip magic users, masters of the art and the carriers of the most lethal weapons. His older brothers were 1 and 2 years older than him, Connor was the one closer to him in age while Maverick was the eldest. Like the other two, Vanitas inherited his father’s black hair but unlike the others he was the only one who seemed to initially have a persona similar to their father, Rolan Blackedge. Through growing up Vanitas noticed that Maverick was too shy and tender to be considered the same as dad personality-wise, even though he looked like the spit image of him, and Connor on the other hand took after mom through and through. Vanitas was not like either of them, he had a more blunt and gritty persona. He was very open and happy but there was an edge to him, Van was the smart-mouth and also the only one who bore golden-yellow eyes, a trait that seemed to come from no one in his family lineage. They were almost haunting and only added to his uniqueness, anyone in the clan would know exactly who Vanitas was whenever he came around. Being the youngest he was also the last one to begin training in combat with Rolan. It was a rude awakening for him since he was used to their dad being a lot kinder and friendly but as an instructor he was cold and emotionless.
Vanitas was the worst for learning how to do technique and fight without giving as much effort; he found loopholes and moves and made them more efficient to his liking. This did not mean he was better than his older brothers, just very keen on getting everything mastered with the least amount of effort as possible. Rolan was notably annoyed at this, from his perspective it looked like his son was trying to do anything but exactly what he was told but never brought it up since he admired the unyielding will Vanitas had to make his own way. Each of the others showed their own style that made them unique as well, Vanitas’ just had his working right from the start. One thing he did not like in his own fighting was that he never was quite as strong as the others as far as brute strength was concerned, it’s not like he couldn’t make up for it in other areas but that specifically bugged him how they were more like dad in that right. Even looking at Van it could be seen he had a sleeker build, he was fast and precise and stronger than the average but the others were stronger.
His relationship with his mother, Trinity was a loving one. He wasn’t quite as devoted as Connor may have been but he was just a bit more independent that way. He knew that all three of them were loved dearly by their parents, even though good old dad seemed to forget that during training time. Van ruled out that it must be necessary in his eyes though; Dad was one of the village elite and he wanted his sons to have the opportunity to become just as strong as he was. Being tough with them must have something to do with making sure they were strong in some way or another. There was only two years of training before the ‘incident’ happened, at least only two years for Van, Maverick got twice as much time and Connor was in-between. Either way there was a day where all the good days came to an end; it crept up on them without warning and was to, to this point the darkest day Vanitas ever lived through. It was the end of his life as he knew it.
The day started like any other, all three boys made it to the training grounds by sunup even though dad would be likely another hour or two. Van did his usual little stretch and went about trying to challenge the others to a quick bout, “C’mon I will show you the true meaning of Blackedge Requip, hehe!” He was a competitive soul, they all were but he tried to keep up with his brothers for the very sake of proving the youngest can still hack it with the likes of more seasoned fighters. It was always a little thing he felt he needed to prove and remind them of, that he was just as strong as they were, even from the beginning when it clearly couldn’t be true. There were other words spoken, some jeering, laughing and a little bit of actual fighting which made Van happy. It wasn’t too long after the normal hour of waiting passed when they noticed that Dad was nowhere to be seen. Van thought maybe he could be planning some sort of surprise exercise but he had no way to be sure, he kind of wondered if the older two knew what was going on, if this was something they had already done before Van was of age. It turned out to not be the case when even Maverick looked confused at the situation. Finally someone made an open suggestion to go back, Van wasn’t even sure who said it but everyone else greed and they began to make their way back to the village.
There was a constant feeling of dread creeping up as they got closer and closer to home, a terrifying feeling that said there was just something that wasn’t right. Sure enough once they got close enough, the sounds of metal on metal and cries from men, women and children, Van quickly knew a battle must have been transpiring in the village. He broke into a run and unconsciously assumed the others were with him. The village came into view and sure enough there was destruction everywhere, weapons and armors and even other magics in the mix. It took a bit of time as Van made it to the fight’s outskirts before he could find his father who was in the thicket facing a man who was holding his ground against him. After a few moments it was clear that they were relatively even but Rolan had the advantage. Just a bit quicker and stronger in each exchange, it was only a matter of how long the other man could keep up. When it seemed that individual fight was in the bag for his dad, Van called out to him and for that moment of yelling for him, his dad turned, obviously with concern that his sons were caught in the mess. Van witnessed this break in his father’s concentration and saw as that moment of lost focus went; he was slash by his opponent. The cut was a crucial one, he was put in a position that he possibly couldn’t recover from. More men rushed in at the site of his weakness, making his downfall definite.
At the site of Rolan going down, Vanitas bolted for him with all his might, dodging around other combat encounters, his tears pouring from his face as he screamed for the men to get off his dad. He just got within ten feet and he was grabbed, detained even with his struggling. There was a moment where he tried to bite one of his detainees. In response the main punched him hard; his world went dark as he faded away from the nightmare attack that befell the Blackedge village.
He awoke, held subject to a sort of event where he could see his father being held in the usual town square. Only difference was all the hostiles that not only held his father down but also handled the survivors, forcing them to bear witness to the torture that was unfolding in front of them. Van was lined next to his brothers, he was on the far left and Connor was to his right, on the other side of Connor was Maverick, who seemed to be in too much shock to verbalize how he felt about this moment. Van felt nothing but contempt for the captors as they subjected his dad to pain that was too great for him to take in, even in his most wild nightmares. It was hours of torment before he was finally dead, a broken man used as an example for the surviving clan members. A message sent by men whose identities remained anonymous except for their wretched faces. Vanitas refused to hold his quivering tongue any longer, he screamed at the lot of them, swearing to slaughter them all and feed their remains to their children along with a lot of derogatory language. When one tried to shush him he spat in his face.
This earned him the beating of his life. He could feel the cracks in his ribs and the sound his arm made when it snapped made all of his insides cringe. He hung limp as he was held, dangling like a ragdoll and he was tossed into a hut right afterwards; Van lay there, apparently unconscious or dead as the hut was set on fire and left to burn with him inside it. When there was enough debris obscuring the entrance he grunted and began to crawl as fast his broken body would let him. The pain was torture but the desire to live and kill these enemies was too great for him to submit. He was a mad child starving for the return of bloodshed that tore his world apart in a single day. Time went by and he made it out of a crack in the back, when he was out the foes were gone, just trails of blood and a broken people left behind as proof they were there. It was moments later when his will finally subsided and Van slipped away from the world into the dark depths of his mind.
Awaking to the familiar smell of his kin, Van had made it through to live another day. He had a couple casts on him but that was of minor importance. He soon learned that his Uncle had saved all there of his nephews, each gotten their own beating for speaking out. Grieving for the loss of family and clan, they all needed time to heal mentally and physically. After that they began conspiring to exact revenge. There was no memory of whose original idea it was, just that it must happen, they were going to pay everything back tenfold, and to do that they needed to train. After more time they convinced their uncle to continue the training where they left off and to not relent until they were worthy of beholding the Blackedge name. For years they practiced and conditioned themselves at an uncanny pace. Van slowly closed the power gap between his older brothers and him and really learned to use his physical advantages to counteract his physical flaws. They became soldiers over time, merciless to their enemies and dignified in their actions.
Besides the physical training Van did notice one thing that changed greatly since they had lost their previous lives; Maverick’s personality did a u-turn. He was no longer shy, he seemed colder and a little callous, and he was exactly the way Dad was during the time he trained them. It was like Mav in all-purposes became the rebirth of Rolan, only the fact was that he still took the role of eldest brother, he never tried to act like a father to them, and it didn’t suit him. Van also noticed that Connor developed an angrier side. Not cold or blunt like Van and Maverick, but a strong rage against dark enemies and those who insulted the name of Blackedge, their father, or their captured mother, which Van learned had happened while he was struggling in the hut. Connor also shared Van’s yellow eyes whenever he was angered, which was thought to be interesting since it didn’t seem to make sense with their heritage. Van knew he changed a bit but it was less of a change to a darker personality but developed more intensity in the perceived colder aspects about him.
Just after Van turned 16 they split up for a while in an attempt to gather info on who caused the downfall of the Blackedge and who took their parents away from them in both sorts. Van’s specific job was to travel abroad and learn info from other survivors, trying to learn a couple names so they could begin their hunt for blood. Van also wanted to find out the missing third party in the movement to erase Blackedge from the Earth. He knew there had to be one to have planned it from the start and that man was who Vanitas wanted to kill the most. Another year passed and it was now time to reunite with his older brothers and pool their general information they collected and begin the slaughter that had become their sworn duty to carry out for the sake of revenge, they would let none escape the darkness that was created within them. Any man responsible was going to die, and Van was going to make sure of that. RP Sample:- Spoiler:
It took a while but Jin was finally able to locate Raiza after the incident with the small dragons, there was no need to explain what was to happen next, they both heard the huge announcement. They were about to go take flight, the only question was where exactly they were going to go, "There are strong enough mages here to handle the current peril, we must go to one of the most defenseless cities." At the statement his companion made Jinchu simply nodded, "I would like to help Magnolia with the Fire Dragon but Fairy Tail is strong enough to do without, I imagine we might even be too late before they win." "Wow Jin, been a while since you've gotten this serious." They were now running as they talked, they needed to make a decision quickly, "Era should be fine as well, plus there was something ominous about the darkness being sent to Warth, with any luck that could be the most destructive opponent, we would be most useful there." There was a silent agreement as they ran then Jinchu jumped into the air like he was about to take flight. Recognizing it as his cue, Raiza spread his wings and shot up, grabbing hold of Jin to bring with him before he came down from the height of his jump.
Jin could feel his new power coursing through his veins, natural flames were erupting from him in his excitement to get moving, and as they flew it trailed behind making it look as if the were rocketing to their destination. They were clearing the city just as Jinchu smelt something quite familiar, the smell of a real Dragon. He looked behind to see a Dragon of legitimate stature making birth at Shiro. Jin snapped his head back forward, "RAIZA WE GOTTA MOVE! WE GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE WE HEAR THE BATTLE UNFOLD!" He merely grunted as he picked up speed, both of them new if they heard the destruction so close to them they would need to go back out of obligation. As they moved, the two began to ascend, gradually getting above the clouds. The air began to get a little colder but that only made Jin burn with more ferocity, the flame was getting more menacing, they were getting near to another city and he was unsure which one, Raiza was the navigator. He wanted to go as fast as possible if it were Era, it wouldn't be good to hear the battle from there either.
Rai knew they weren't at Era yet so he wasn't worried about that. Lucky for them Era didn't need to be passed over to get to Warth if travelling directly. Even though they weren't close to any carnage at the moment they could feel the evil everywhere, too much darkness was happening in Fiore, someone needed to stop it, "Rai, we need to think of a battle strategy! I have a few things in mind, I can feel a new strength and I feel like I know how to use it.... But we need to plan, this thing is going to be a Dragon... And if we are right, potentially the strongest one!" Jin, with all his knowledge of Dragons did not think he could come up with a way to win with such short notice if it was one as strong as they thought. They believed it would be almost or possibly as strong as Jin's father, which meant it would be a feat to survive let alone win against it. His eyes were stern and gaze was forward, he really needed Rai's help on thinking of something. There was a silence where they both appeared to be deep in thought. It wasn't long before they could hear something since they both had hearing more sensitive than a normal human's.
They kept going and the sound was confirmed to be a great Dragon roaring in the far distance, the noise carried to such great lengths, there was a moment of worry within Jin's mind, "What city do you think that is?.." "Most likely Era, we shouldn't hesitate with where we are going, we can only handle one at a time." They dropped slightly as they kept going, apparently the woodlands weren't too much farther, all that was left was the mind-boggling waiting that would go on until they arrived. With inconsistent clenches of his jaw, Jin was almost at the end of his patience level and Raiza wasn't too far behind him in that area, they both wanted to get there in time to save the innocent people. The sky was quite dark by now, Jin barely noticed due to the light of his own fire but even he made a mental note that this must mean they were getting close, 'I'm ready for you darkness.... I will destroy you...' Even though he was a little foggy on the details of how he was going to be able to manage, Jinchu couldn't shake the fact that he must win regardless.
He heard a new roar, much closer now and definitely defined, not to mention it was nearly night out at midday. Raiza began to angle downwards following the sound of the deafening roar and allowing gravity to help them gain speed. They had finally gotten close enough to see what was unfolding before them, a Dragon blacker than the night sky it created was tearing around the wooded area. They were still too far to do anything so all that was left was to get there. With his anger at what was happening, Jinchu began to burn from inside out, it seemed to help them move forward as the flame barreled out from him, "I WILL DEFEND THIS LAND AND TAKE YOU OUT, YOU TRAITOROUS BASTARD!" His voice carried into the lands, the gauntlet was thrown, Jinchu was in the area and everything suddenly got serious. There was a definite tension as they still needed to prove what was said was legitimate make it to the Dragon to do so. Now was finally time for a full nosedive. Face Claim: Vanitas: Kingdom Hearts
